Neskowin Ghost Forest

Yep, those used to be trees

Me and lots of other Oregonians came to see the ghost forest during super low tide! Yay crowds!

This is so Oregonian.

So negative low tides, or super low tides as I like to call them, are when the tide tables go into the negative. It’s a great time to go to the beach to see all the cool creatures in tide pools that are usually hidden under water.

So many mermaid accessories

Real talk though, the Ghost Forest itself is pretty cool. It does lose some of it’s magic when it’s surrounded by such a large group of people. But it’s interesting nonetheless. And I will always take the chance to check out cool stuff at the coast. Especially if it involves little sea creatures.

It’s believed that the tree stumps are over 2000 years old. There was an earthquake and/or tsunami type event that plunged them down to the beach and they were quickly covered up with sand which preserved them. There were some storms in the late 90’s that uncovered them and now they are covered in sea life and are visible when the tide is low.

You know what else is fun about Oregon? The weather. If super low tide falls on a rainy/misty morning, you just prep for it and deal with it. That is Oregon. Even on August 2nd.

Who wasn’t prepared for the weather? Me. But that won’t stop me from enjoying the beach, messy makeup or no.
Tide so low, you could walk all the way around Proposal Rock
Anemones eating crab. Because they are high class.
The Oregon Coast, in Summertime. So gray. So moist.
