Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum

Let me tell you about my absolute favorite movie that I discovered during the pandemic.

Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum is a Tamil language film starring Vijay Sethupathi as Kathir and Madonna Sebastian as Yazhini. Yazhini is an aspiring engineer who leaves her family home to move to the city and pursue her career. Things are going GREAT for her, until suddenly…. the office she works at is shut down and she finds herself jobless, homeless and friendless. So she moves into a cheap apartment and is less than enthused to meet her next door neighbor, Kathir – a gangster.

Kathir is absolutely my favorite character of the film, but he will also go down as one of my favorite characters in anything ever. He is intimidating and mouthy but under that rough exterior he is a big softie. He takes care of people, including the new girl that lives next door.

Kathir has his own struggles. He is five months out of prison and he wants to own his own bar someday, but his boss, who has promised to help him as reward for serving time on behalf of the gang, isn’t helping at all. To make matters worse, a new gangster has moved in on the gang’s territory and Kathir’s boss isn’t taking him seriously as a threat.

Anyway, I really hope you watch this movie. It’s hilarious, adorable and heartwarming. As of this writing you can find it on Amazon Prime. Let me know what you think!
